POSTPONED – Mid-America’s Area Championship

Dear Friends and Sailors,

Thank you all for your interest in the 46th Annual Mid-Americas Area Championship hosted by Hobie Cat Fleet 23 in Dallas.

Regrettably, we must postpone the Mid-America’s Area Championship scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

Due to area rains and localized flooding, as of today Lake Lewisville is +6.16′ and is continuing to rise. Mark & I drove around the lake today, Lake Park (the Hobie Point park entrance) is closed, and the boat ramp there is underwater. The DCYC boat docks are inaccessible, and the grounds still soggy even after several days of sunshine. We’ve never seen so many boats in the parking lot, under the trees, and tucked away on the highest points.

With more rain expected on Saturday and possibly next week, the lake levels are not expected to ebb significantly. Thus, we must POSTPONE the Memorial Day event. Safety for the sailors, our volunteers and equipment are of paramount concern, so we’ve made the difficult decision to reschedule this Area Championship.

We’re targeting July 13-14 as the tentative Championship weekend. However, we need to confirm the venue and date with our preferred venue hosts. I’ll keep you all informed and I appreciate your understanding as we cope with Mother Nature’s bountiful rains.
